We can't read your messages, by design, not by promise. Your content is encrypted before it ever leaves your device.

What this
really means

Your content is encrypted before it leaves your device. Our servers relay it but can't decrypt it. We don't have the keys. We collect minimal metadata, and even contact discovery uses hashed, not plaintext, phone numbers.

Encrypted on Your Device

Your messages, media, and calls are encrypted on your device before they leave it. We only ever see encrypted data that's meaningless without your keys.

History Stays With You

Your encryption keys live on your device, and so does your message history. You and your recipients are the only ones who can decrypt your conversations.

Servers Just Relay

Our servers relay encrypted data, but can't decrypt it. They don't know what they're carrying, and that's by design.

Hashed Contact Discovery

Finding people you know uses hashed phone numbers, not plaintext ones. We design for minimal metadata at every step.

Why this matters

No Data Breaches Risk

If our servers are compromised, your data stays safe. Hackers would only get encrypted gibberish.

Always protected

No Government Requests

We can't comply with requests to hand over your messages because we don't have access to them. Period.

No Rogue Employees

No one at Fernweh can snoop on your conversations. It's technically impossible.
